The Indian Institute of Welding is a professional body devoted to the promotion and advancement of welding science and technology in India. Established in 1966, with its registered office at Kolkata, it has eleven branches located all over the country.
IIW has over 4000 welding professionals and more than 300 industries as members. The objectives of IIW include dissemination of knowledge and the latest developments in the field of welding and allied technologies through seminars, workshops, training programmes etc. provide technical guidance and consultation to industries in welding conduct associate membership examination and publish technical journals and periodicals in the field of welding. Since 2007, the IIW has become an Authorized National Body (ANB) of International Institute of Welding for training and certification of welding professionals in India.
The first Best Welding Engineer & Best Welder Awards were distributed at the inaugural function of IIW IC 2008. Since then, the competition has grown in popularity and is held every year.
Best Welding Engineer Competition 2025

Eligibility Criterion

- Must have knowledge in Inspection, QA & QC, Costing, and Safety in Welding Technology
- Qualifications and requisite experience as follows:
1. If you are an Indian resident and
2. If you are an engineering graduate with min 2 years’ experience preferably in welding technology OR
3. If you are a Diploma holder with min. 5 years’ experience in welding technology OR
4. If you are a science graduate with min 10 years’ experience in welding and its allied subjects
